A Lake or a Mountain
Rev 21:8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. KJV
I’ve seen it many times before, and I pray I don’t have to see it again, but there is the possibility. I’ve seen many people that are cowards when it comes to people asking them about God. I’ve seen people that just don’t believe, I’ve seen just pure rotten people at heart, and even people who have killed a fellow man for something as little as a pair of shoes. The bible says that these and much more will have their part in the burning lake.
I don’t know about you guys but I’d rather not spend my eternity in a burning lake. This is the hottest summer I’ve experienced in a while, and it’s too much for me. I can’t even begin to imagine what a burning lake would be like.
Now I’d like to state all these people that Rev. 21:8 talks about, they don’t have to burn in that lake. Because I’ve been a few of those that the scripture quotes, but God has forgiven me of that. Maybe you every now and then tell a “little white lie” thinking it’s ok and there is nothing wrong with it. Well a lie is a lie, white or black, it’s all the same. We aren’t racist here, not in color of the skin, so why should we be racist on the color of a lie.
I would like to have something better to look forward to for my inheritance from God then a burning lake. I’d like to see everyone have a better inheritance than that. That’s what our job is as Christians, to reach the lost. All the things that were stated in Revelation 21:8 are descriptions of lost souls. If someone is involved with one of those, they are a lost soul, and we should be striving to be soul winners.
You may not see the fruits of this right away but let me bring to your remembrance a man that had a promise. In Numbers the 13th chapter, we have the story of the 12 Spies that Moses sent to check out the
We all know the story; the children of
Josh 14:9
9 And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children's for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God. KJV
Who do you want to be, one of the few with the faith to believe that Gods word is Truth and that he will bring it to pass, or one of the others? Dieing never seeing the promise? But as I was saying, In Deu
Let’s go on ahead to Joshua chapter 14, at the age of 85, forty five years after the promise was given unto him. Caleb finally sees the fulfillment of his promise.
Josh 14:12-13
12 Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.
13 And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance. KJV
After Forty Five years of following God, his promise was fulfilled. Could you and I have waited this long? Could you follow God for forty five years after a promise was given to you? Or would you have turned and served a false god, or loose your belief? Would you rather be on top of the mountain God has promised you or burning in
When times seem tough, and it looks like you may never receive your promise, remember Caleb and his forty five years. What do you want as your inheritance, A mountain, or a lake?

Come Back to God
Jeremiah 3:12
Return, thou backsliding
KJV
Yes, I understand, this isn’t the full verse, but this is the part I want to write about. I was wondering what to write on for today, and Last night before church I was in a Sunday school room, in the dark, praying, and God gave me a scripture. He just simply told me, Jeremiah 3:12. I didn’t know what the scripture was, or what it was about. I admit I have a bad memory and often times I forget where to find what I’m looking for in the bible.
So I said, Ok God, I’ll write on this, So I look it up a few hours later to find this scripture “Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD” I don’t know about you people, but I’m thankful that I have a merciful God.
I really would like to start by giving a testimony. I started attending church three years ago. As I was about a year into my faith, I backslid from church, I went out into the world, and I did everything imaginable. I became a constant marijuana user; I was always high no matter where I was I was drunk every night. And I just didn’t want church anymore.
Not all of us have been to this point, but a lot of us have. Of course, I knew God was real, and I eventually turned from my ways, and returned to the house of God, and I fell on my face and repented unto God. Since God is the merciful God that he is, I am forgiven and am again on the path of truth.
Just because you may backslide doesn’t mean God will not take you back. I’m not saying God is pleased that you did the things you did. God hates the sin not the sinner. Again the bible also says that we have all came short of the glory of God. So when you fall, you don’t have stay down because you feel ashamed, get back up. Backsliding is not the answer to your mistakes.
If you do backslide though, don’t think God will not take you back. God will take you back for he is a merciful God. I know we feel as if when we come back, everyone will look at us, and point fingers, and whisper things about us. But have you ever thought that maybe those whispers are things like “I hope the Lord touches him/her tonight and brings them back to us, I’d really love to see them come back to the Truth.”
Backsliding isn’t the end of the road folks. No matter how far off the path you may stray, God can always pick you up, turn you around and set you on the right path. There’s a song I really enjoy that goes like this: “He picked me up, He turn me around, He placed my feet, on solid ground.” He has done this for me, and He can do it for you. I just want to ask you, if you are reading this and you are not where you should be with God. Please sir, madam, please come back to God.
Yours in Christ,
James Mitchell

Watch What You Say
Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.
NIV
We all have times where we've talked about someone in the church. How about you girls when you were a teenager and you always talked about how cute that guy in the grade above you was. Or how about you guys when you and your friends would talk about how hott the girls coming up to high school are. I'm sure we've all been to times like these. I know I have.
I'd like to ask a question to not only you, but to myself also. Are these conversations detrimental to our walk with God? I believe the answer is yes. As we read in this scripture it says to "avoid godless chatter." This isn't meaning avoid talking about anything that doesn't involve God. It's telling us to not talk about things that aren't Godly.
I'm gonna pick on us teenage guys, when we talk about how hott this girl is. Really, is it about the looks? I see more and more flesh on younger and younger girls each day. It used to be those girls about 25 would show some cleavage, now you see girls that are 12 and 13, walking around practically with no top on. I've been in the world and I know how the temptation will set in on us guys.
When your looking at these things young men, Think about it, the bible says that we should dress "modestly." Is that modest? The definition of modest is, "not offensive to sexual mores in conduct or appearance." Lets think about that. So your saying the Bible says they shouldn't be dressing like these hott girls are dressing? That's exactly what I'm saying.
Don't get me wrong. It's not all in your dress, your dress isn't gonna get you to heaven. But if the Bible says that we should dress Modestly, there is a reason. Lets look at what the Word says, "2 Tim 2:22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. KJV." Flee also youthful Lust? Whatever does that mean?
When we're young in body and heart, we tend to look more at the opposite sex with a desire of the flesh. This is dangerous ground to be on. We all have the desires, but we need to "flee" these desires. So if your dwelling on these thoughts, your words and actions will follow. One your actions began to step off from the path you were walking for God, then you begin to miss your study time, your prayer time, and you will miss a church service. Before to long, your not even attending church anymore.
If you don't believe this will happen, I promise you, I've seen it more times then I can count, and it's even happened to me. There is an important thing you can remember, "Learn from the voice of experience." Theres to many of us that have already made these mistakes, you don't have to.
So you see that these conversations that we deem harmless, can actually produce an evil fruit. The bible says "Matt 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. KJV" So you see, The only way we are going to produce good fruit for the Kingdom is to make sure that we are a good tree.
If we begin to let ungodly talk seep into our daily conversations, we'll begin to corrupt ourselves, and become a corrupt tree, we'll then begin to bring forth evil fruit, or bad fruit. The bible also says a few chapters down in Matthew 12:33 that "for the tree is known by his fruit."
I want to say that I really feel we should watch our conversations, not to let ungodly material seep in. I also belive that whatever we talk about shouldn't leave a bad taste in our friends mouths. If you say something that isn't Godly and you go to invite them to church, they'll remember exactly when and what you said.
So we need to watch our words, and take heed of our actions so that we don't turn our friends away from God, or worse, eventually turn ourselves from God.
Luke 14:34
Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

Do Everything With Love
13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong. 14 Do everything in love.
NIV
We've all read where Jesus himself spoke the words, "Love thy neighbor as thyself." I am asking you, Do you truly love your neighbor? How about that old couple down the street that are always complaining about anything and everything that you do?
Do you love them? What about those ex friends of yours that borrowed some money from you and never paid you back. Do you love them? I am sure that we have all came across people like these and for some of you, much worse.
When we see these people we don't see the good things that could be on the inside, we just see everything about them that they do wrong. So when your neighbor complains about that bird bath you just put up that has an angel statue on it, are you going to get upset and be rude and give them the same looks they give you?
When it comes down to something like this we need to ask ourselves that popular phrase, "What would Jesus do?" When you are upset with your neighbor, then you need to fall on your face and pray, asking God to guide your actions and your words with whatever you say or do around your neighbors.
Your actions need to reflect the God that is in you. When revival comes around, these type of people are generally the last people that we would invite. These people though are the people that Jesus hung on the cross for. He had an agape type of Love for the world. An agape type of love is a love that you give freely, expecting nothing back in return.
In us we have the Holy Ghost, which is the Spirit of God. And the scripture says in 1 John 4:16 "God Is Love". So when we speak to these people we need to have our words and actions reflect the Love of God. Everything we say or do they will remember, the Word says "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid." If you are reflecting the Spirit in you, they will See the God that you have and that is being a witness in itself.
Each and every action we do or say needs to have love in it. We all have times where we are frustrated and angry, but how would the world look at you if your constantly ranting and raving about something and then you invite them to church?
So next time someone does you wrong, then don't give them dirty looks or attitude when you talk to them. Love them, show them the Love that God has showed you and forgive them if they do you wrong. Show the world through your love, the love that God will show them.
1 John 4:16
16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.
NIV
God Bless you,
James Mitchell.

Who Am I?
20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
NIV
I ask a simple question. Who am I in this life that I live. Am I just me, James Mitchell? Am I just some guy from a small town in Tennessee? When we die, all things that we have done stop, our life stops, the actions that our body took stop. So when I see the bible saying that "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live." I've died, the things I did in the past are over, they've stopped, they've come to a screeching halt.
"Christ lives in me" so I know that I can live a clean life because of this. Christ lived his whole life without every sinning. Was he tempted? Yes, He was tempted by everything that you and I have been tempted by. SO if we have the spirit of Christ in us, We too can overcome these temptations.
If a really close person in your family asked you on their death bed to perform some action for them for the rest of your life, most of you would accept and would keep that request. Well, Our Heavenly Father gave his life for us, and every request he has for us to follow is in the Holy Bible.
Every day God brings us to a door, he doesn't push us through, to go through is our own choice. When you step through you generally don't feel any different, No magical feeling comes over you. It's a choice you have to make. "Will I live for my Savior who died for me, or will I live in the pleasures of the world which will pass away?"
Who am I that Jesus Christ, Lord of Lords, King of Kings, would die on a cross, spit on, mocked and beaten, so that we could have everlasting life in paradise.
Luke 9:23-24
23 Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
24 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.
NIV

Perseverance
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.
NIV
Perseverance---the power to stick with something until it is completed---is the key to achieving your goals and reaching your dreams. No matter how much talent, skill, intelligence, or personal charisma you have, you won't get where you want to go unless you're determined to keep your eyes focused squarely on the finish line.
Persevering means refusing to become distracted by bumps in the road---discouraging circumstances. It means discarding the negative opinions and comments of others.
God created you for a purpose, and He wants to see you succeed. When you call on Him, He promises to renew your strength. He was there at the beginning of your race, and He'll be there at the end---so persevere!
There must be a beginning to any great matter, but the continuing to the end until it be thoughly Finished yields the true glory. --- Thomas Carlyle
Heb 10:36
You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
NIV
